Beyond Certainty is a direct response to the painting Not a Moment Longer, which is smaller but also much more spare in its color palette and volume of mark making. Where Not a Moment Longer begs the question “how little is needed to make something not only beautiful but meaningful”, Beyond Certainty asks “how much can beauty hold before it loses all meaning”? With an intensely vibrant and varied color palette and variety of overlapping mark making, every inch of this room sized painting introduces a new relationship, a new dynamic to contend with. The composition holds its own from dozens of feet away, while actively drawing the viewer closer and closer with its history rich surface. This painting looks equally compelling hung vertically, with the deep burgundy vignette creating a solid visual anchor and counterweight to the uplifted motion of the large form.
