Color. Atmosphere. Emotion. Original abstract artwork by Michele Elizabeth.
Michele Elizabeth is a contemporary abstract artist based in Amarillo, Texas. Her practice has been shaped by some community college-level art study, independently pursued workshops, and more than two decades of experimentation across painting and conceptual art.
Her interest in making art began in the early 2000s, influenced by the street art she encountered in London and Austin. Drawn to its immediacy, physicality, and unconventional approach to image-making, she began creating stencil-based street art before expanding her practice into painting, assemblage, and installation.
Over the following years, Michele participated in solo and group exhibitions in Amarillo and Lubbock, Texas, developing a multidisciplinary practice centered on experimentation and intuitive making. After stepping away from exhibiting for a number of years to focus on her growing family, she returned to the studio in 2026 with a renewed focus on painting.
Her current work explores the tension between beauty, emotional complexity, and ambiguity through a highly intuitive, process-driven approach. Working primarily in acrylic with oil pastel, she builds and disrupts her surfaces through translucent washes, decisive gestures, veiling, subtraction, and repeated acts of revision. Forms are allowed to emerge, disappear, and leave remnants behind, creating paintings that retain a visible history of their making.
Michele lives and works in Amarillo with her woodturner husband Steve, four children and beloved dog, where she continues to develop a growing body of abstract paintings.
